Operations Impact Strategy

The scope of Capital Works tend to be prescribed by the client. In the case of Rail projects, capital works may relate to the upgrade of a station or the extension of the line.

Maintenance Operations are also planned to a large degree in the form of Planned Maintenance and an expected amount of Reactive Maintenance activities. Minimum maintenance requirements tend to be also prescribed by the client; however, it is likely that additional maintenance is required: Operations requires some degree of flexibility due to uncertain future unseen faults. As such costing is more difficult to determine at early stages.

Flexible and Responsive

Defining an Operations Strategy therefore must at least consider the risks associated with unknown incidents, as well as Planned Maintenance. In addition however, if Capital Works are carried out at times different to originally planned, Maintenance must respond to such changes.

As such, apm has tended to support the Operations Directorates of an organisation, aswell as businesses at a strategic level. For example, we have supported Maintenance Operations to reassess the impact of Capital Works projects, in terms of both reprogramming and changes to scope. Relating this back to the available Funds, we have been able to support the transfer of funds between directorates or even the release of risk funds.
